Sunday school games are a great way to loosen everybody up before a youth group or youth ministry meeting. The object of Sunday school games should be to get everybody involved in a simple and fun way. Here are a few tips and ideas to keep in mind when having your youth group participate in Sunday school games.

First everybody should be able to participate. Not everybody is an athlete or physically gifted and can dunk a basketball. Keep this in mind when setting up various Sunday school games for your youth ministry. When choosing Sunday school games to have your youth ministry participate in the aware of this and switch up the amount of physical activity or athletic activity that each game contains. For instance if you have your youth group outside participating in one of your more physical Sunday school games, next week have your students participate in a mind teaser game.

When choosing Sunday school games, you should also be aware of the climate and weather where you will be playing your games. If it is late fall or winter it might not be the best time to have your youth ministry participating in a water gun fight! Now I know a lot of people won’t make a mistake like that, but in all seriousness if your youth ministry is outside participating in one of your Sunday school games in the late evening know when the sun is going to go down and plan accordingly so everybody can see well enough not to get hurt while participating in one of the games.

Sunday school games should always be a way to bring everybody together. Watch out for any bullying or mocking that may occur during one of the games. If your teens are very competitive they may mock or taunt other students while participating in the games. You should draw a line and not let anybody cross that line when it comes to respect for each other even in a casual setting of playing a game. In a lot of cases this isn’t something that you will have to worry about but if it does arise be sure to nip it in the bud very quickly.

Sunday school games should be used to lighten the mood. A lot of times in youth ministry there are a lot of heavy topics that can bring a lot of emotions to the forefront with your students. Use the games as a way to lighten the mood so that every class begins and ends on a high note.
Lastly a great tip for any youth leader or youth minister is to participate yourself in the Sunday school games. A lot of your students will want nothing more than to beat you in a challenging mind twister game or physical activity. So join the fun with your youth ministry and participate with them! The worst thing that can happen is you lose, but the best thing that can happen is everybody comes together and had a great time participating in Sunday school games.
